BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: Fans have been placed. Was able to get them behind the rockchips
mod6: Ok, so here it is, lobbes' rockchip is quarterly, which comes out to 0.01102674 BTC per month. This to me qualifes as 'pre-paid'. However, the Hosted Shell Plus he has been doing since August is month-to-month and imho does not qualify as a 'pre-paid'.
mod6: Next months report, he should be back to a 'pre-paid' as he did sign-up for another quarter of rockchippen
mod6: So for BingoBoingo, he had previously been on a quarterly rockchip plan, but for August, he was month-to-month. So I skipped over his as it wasn't really a 'pre-pay', in my mind.
asciilifeform: [ 2.553159] rockchip-u3phy ff470000.usb3-phy: U3 device has disconnected
diana_coman: hm, as a wild idea: some IP mess up could explain this wonder I guess? i.e. I'm trying to connect to the IP of my rockchip afaik but if meanwhile it's not that of my rockchip...
asciilifeform: we're gonna get to the bottom of the rockchip thing today.
diana_coman: as far as I can tell from here it looks like sshd is not running on my rockchip or something, rather weird
diana_coman: good morning; I can't seem to be able to connect to my rockchip anymore: http (ossasepia.com) gives 403 You don't have permission to access / on this server ; ssh refuses connection too; there was NO change as far as I know - I haven't touched it in quite a while and last time I connected everything worked fine; any idea what might be wrong there, BingoBoingo ?
mod6: but anyway, yeah, would love to get 8-12 more 1U's similar to UY3, and however many more rockchips.
mod6: asciilifeform: yeah, totally agree. i want to discuss moar rockchips, and more 1U servers.
mod6: i've taken lobbes' prepaid rockchip, and divided by 3 (since he did quarterly)
mod6: I've tried this both with and without lobbes' rockchip (which is prepaid through October), and two otherways with the a "0" infront of the decimal, and withotu.
adlai: at the risk of sounding like a lightly-chipped (for the broken don't spin too good) record: i'd be glad to rent the new rockchip. i promise this time to think before i type, and not play the shitty music too loud.
mod6: so for curiosity sake, I did look at USB3 sticks that are >128Gb in size for the rockchip. found that kingston makes a 1Tb stick.
BingoBoingo: <mod6> BingoBoingo: On August 1st, we can scrub mats rockchip and place it back up for rental. Please ask me before any action is taken, just so we're 100% we're good to nuke. << Will do
mod6: BingoBoingo: On August 1st, we can scrub mats rockchip and place it back up for rental. Please ask me before any action is taken, just so we're 100% we're good to nuke.
mod6: mats you will have access to your rockchip until August 1st.
mod6: < mats> mod6 pls invoice for an additional 3mo of service on the shared hosting, and stop service on the rockchip << ok, you got it.
mats: mod6 pls invoice for an additional 3mo of service on the shared hosting, and stop service on the rockchip
lobbes: and if so, would it be permissible to run such a mailer from the rockchip, or would this violate the "no-spam" clause?
BingoBoingo: ty for the mysql update on the rockchip. Going to have to do some package mask digging myself this weekend
lobbes: Vexual slowly. Spent most of last weekend getting blog resurrected on rockchip (though, it was not in vein). Today was eulora auction/logotron-related maintenance. But next up in hopper is hitting the oceans again. I'll prolly follow ben_vulpes' lead and try to assess the altcoiners' hangouts
ben_vulpes: asciilifeform: are the rockchips physically identifiable by IP?
ben_vulpes: BingoBoingo: please coordinate with asciilifeform on extracting the usb-ttl cables from phuctor for two rockchip customers
lobbes: btw ben_vulpes, in light of my spiffy new pizarro rockchip box, I don't think I'll need my shell going forward (and I got to pinch every bitcent). Feel free to reclaim my space once my period runs out (I think I was monthly); I dun have anything on there I need to save
ben_vulpes: lobbes: rockchip invoice fired; ping me when you pay it and i'll forward creds
mod6: (six because that's how many rockchips are availible -- for the readers sake)
ben_vulpes: we plug it into a rockchip, and they...what?
mod6: And if not, perhaps, they must buy the FG. If they do buy the FG, and they discontinue their rental of the rockchip, how do we keep track of the FG for them, or send it to them, or ... wire it into full 1U/2U?
mod6: re this thread : http://logs.bvulpes.com/trilema?d=2018-5-1#346513 << Any thoughts ben_vulpes ? I guess my first question: Since we only allow for rental of the rockchip, should we allow for the rental of the FG if one wishes to attach one to it? And if so, at what rate?
asciilifeform: ben_vulpes: i recommend to practice on a (unoccupied) rockchip first
asciilifeform: simplest method, run 'date' on your local box, then date -s 'whateveryougot' on the rockchip.
mod6: Can anyone help me here -- I'm just trying to emerge ViM on rockchip. Running this `emerge -v app-editors/vim`, there are 7 parts to this build. And it's been building the 4th package (ctags) for 2 days now.
asciilifeform: and likewise you gotta manually agree with people to run services on external port on that thing. whereas on rockchip, you are own admin, have own root, own ip.
mats: i ask because the monthly cost seems incredibly low compared to rockchip rental
mats: can i get an invoice for 1 q of rockchip service, a tar of the image, and build instructions for that image?
mod6: Get in the wot amigo, so you can get yourself a rockchip. Will rate ya upon registration.
ben_vulpes: at least reg a key and rent a rockchip eh
ben_vulpes: namenick12: reg a key, rent a shell or rockchip?
namenick12: hola. have a nit pick [21:12:45] · <mircea_popescu> ben_vulpes, so then, invoice me for 75 * 4 + 50 an' send the boy his details ? seems to be for 4 months yet you called it a year [21:31:19] · <deedbot> Invoiced mircea_popescu 0.04344809 << 1 rockchip @ pizarro, april 19 2018 -- april 19 2019 . namenick12 not good at maffs, but...
trinque: by chance did a rockchip or something come up with same IP?
mod6: I'm excited for the rockchip boxen. Thanks for getting that working and transported. :]
ascii_lander: ben_vulpes, mod6 : at yer earliest leisure, plox to begin calculating a pricing scheme for rockchip, and likewise for rockchip + $feature (e.g. FG, possibly later point, extra disk space, etc)
ascii_lander: ben_vulpes: plox to confer with BingoBoingo at yer earliers convenience re ip alloc for rockchip boxen
ben_vulpes: i'm racking my head for any other last minute items you might need to get these machines together. got the raid card, snake for the drives, fgs...pcengines and rockchips...
asciilifeform: given as there will be NO ipkvm service for rockchip boxen
mimisbrunnr: Logged on 2018-04-07 05:33 Vexual: any idea on cost to rent an rockchip board?
PeterL: hi guys. Did you say anything yet about what the cost of the rockchip boxes would be compared to the shared server?
asciilifeform: ok, i am finalizing the order if no one has what to add : 1 x power cord ; 1 x plastic rack for up to 6 rockchip ; 1 x 6unit usb 60watt power brick ; 5 x 8G microsd ( for rockchip boot ) ; 5 x rockchip heatsink; 5 x rockchip board ; 6 x 128G samsung usb stick ; plus i will bring the pilot rockchip from my desk .
