mod6: thanks will do. got a lot done today. invoicing begins tomorrow.
mod6: bbl
mod6: I just noticed an error in my notes I sent out, I had listed in there $8600 as the price point for August, that's a fat-finger, it's really $8200.00 will send out a correction tomorrow probably, with some addtional notes.
ben_vulpes: mod6 asciilifeform BingoBoingo http://p.bvulpes.com/pastes/A1sAq/?raw=true << updated mod6

BingoBoingo: tyvm ben_vulpes

BingoBoingo: tyvm
mod6: Awe shit
mod6: The DHL tracking page for the Drives was updated, it now says 'Devuelto al Remitente' at the top.
mod6: 'Returned to the Sender'
asciilifeform: waat
mod6 punches tree
mod6: Apparently it was sent to the wrong address - BingoBoingo was saying.
mod6: Well, let's start thinking about how to get another shipment there to the correct address this time.
asciilifeform: what exactly happened there ?
mod6: Maybe BB can get some of those amazon cards and place the order himself and get the correct addy in there.
mod6: nfi
ben_vulpes: i must have put in the wrong address
mod6: something about the wrong numerical address
mod6: brb meat
BingoBoingo: ben_vulpes: Well, you did with the USB ttyls, but for those they let me change the delivery address
ben_vulpes: BingoBoingo: just forwarded you an email i got today
BingoBoingo: ben_vulpes: I'll fill out the form
ben_vulpes: ty
BingoBoingo: ben_vulpes: Passed it back to you. There is a pdf turd attached. Scribble out a me looking signature and print my name at the bottom. Scan and forward to the DHL contact.
ben_vulpes: BingoBoingo: ack
BingoBoingo: And OH SHIT, this dough is growing
ben_vulpes: firma is printed?
ben_vulpes: BingoBoingo:
BingoBoingo: firma is a signature.
BingoBoingo: A scribble will do
ben_vulpes: what is aclaracion, out of curiousity
BingoBoingo: Aclaracion is printed
BingoBoingo: Firma's the scribble. Aclaracion is the printed
ben_vulpes: gracias
ben_vulpes: one
ben_vulpes: done*
BingoBoingo: No, gracias a ti
mod6: ok back
mod6: so the pdf document was to change the delivery address to the right one? or what was that about?
BingoBoingo: mod6: It's a signed thing saying "I take responsibility for this Foreign weird"
mod6: oh, ok. so it's getting shipped back to the US then?
BingoBoingo: <mod6> oh, ok. so it's getting shipped back to the US then? << This is yet to be seen
mod6: Ok. Gotcha.
ben_vulpes: it's getting shipped back to the us
ben_vulpes: "we are no longer in a position to entern it into uruguay"
ben_vulpes: i seem to have screwed this one up spectacularly
mod6: ok, let us know if you hear any more updates and/or/if you receive the package back.
mod6: meanwhile, we need to order new drives asap
mod6: ben_vulpes: can you dig up the exact drive model & part number for us.
mod6: want to ensure that we order the correct thing
ben_vulpes: mod6: i am on hold with bezorscorp right now, entreating them to redeliver
ben_vulpes: they are samsung 860 evos, 1TB
mod6: ok thanks for calling. np, take your time.
mod6: when you have a spare moment, all the info we can get on that specific part number is good so we get the right one. who knows if they have different generations of the drives or god only knows.
ben_vulpes: mod6: I ordered the MZ-76E1TOB/AM
mod6: nice, thanks ben_vulpes
ben_vulpes: mod6: amazon is redlivering two, and refunding three to a gift card i will pass to you
mod6: let's pass it right along to BingoBoingo
mod6: *lets
mod6: he's gonna be ordering these
mod6: BingoBoingo: sound good? you have a shitazon account i gather?
BingoBoingo: mod6: I do indeed
mod6: awesome, that'll work great then
mod6: is mimi still broadcasting blocks in #chainstate?
ben_vulpes: looks stuck
mod6: so ben_vulpes when we say 'redelivering' two, does that mean redelivering to you, or to .uy?
ben_vulpes: mod6: to .uy
mod6: alright, cool. BingoBoingo all set to buy three more with the giftcard?
ben_vulpes: oh shoot, it's just a credit on my account.
ben_vulpes: BingoBoingo: update me with the correct address and i'll order 3 more for delivery
BingoBoingo: ben_vulpes: http://p.bvulpes.com/pastes/UDUdp/?raw=true
ben_vulpes: ty
ben_vulpes: ah, the lols continue. the redelivery "didn't go through" and the refund was for the wrong amount.
ben_vulpes will continue to sit on hold with the call center
mod6: jaysus
mod6: thanks ben
mod6: lobbes: is 'lobbesbot`' your actual lobbesbot? or is this an imposter?
mod6: mornin' all.
mod6: ben_vulpes: how did it go with the call lastnight, any luck getting it all straightened out?
mod6: wtf
mod6: want to set just +r, not also p, i, and z
mod6: https://freenode.net/kb/answer/channelmodes
mod6: oh, ok. there we go. just had the command parameters backwards :D
BingoBoingo: Mornin'
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: when you get back, ok to re-emplace disk into your rk, and power it back up, i'ma then copy new kernel to sd, and gpg you the new random pw
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: if you have no other items in dc, can go home after it boots
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: ty, back in dc
BingoBoingo: And powered on
asciilifeform: stand by
mod6: so for curiosity sake, I did look at USB3 sticks that are >128Gb in size for the rockchip. found that kingston makes a 1Tb stick.
asciilifeform: mod6: howmuch costs
mod6: any guesses on what they wanted for it?
mod6: i'll save you the trouble of looking it up: $598
asciilifeform: lol!
mod6: oh, nevermind, today $650
mod6: https://www.kingston.com/us/usb/personal_business/dtugt
mod6: But, the interesting part is perhaps in an year or so, this price will come down, and maybe there will be even 512Gbs in the marketplace that are even more affordable.
mod6: So rockchip could then perhaps house a trb.
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: http://p.bvulpes.com/pastes/Rqx3s/?raw=true << you're good to go.
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: ignore the 'E', is typo, unit still F
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: plox to confirm once you've tested.
asciilifeform: mod6: 1 problem is that the ssd ( esp cheapo , usb variant ) are getting cheaper as result of 'densification'
asciilifeform: i.e. at expense of wear hardness
asciilifeform: see the old 'single vs multi-layer' thread
asciilifeform: ( early 2000s ssds, such that existed, were ~eternal, as they were single-layer )
asciilifeform: each new gen, is slightly closer to plain rubbish
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: ty, connected
ben_vulpes: mod6: full refund *still not delivered*, getting back on the phone now
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: lemme know if you have any problem on new kernel.
asciilifeform: ( it isn't actually a diff tree, just same one as before with the options needed for iptables )
mod6: <@asciilifeform> i.e. at expense of wear hardness << ah, ok. makes sense.
mod6: ben_vulpes: full refund for the 3 drives not delivered; got it.
mod6: Thanks for following up on this.
ben_vulpes: mod6: for all 5
ben_vulpes: http://logs.bvulpes.com/pizarro?d=2018-8-9#411398 << support failed to get the two delivered they said they would deliver, and so i am waiting on a refund for all 5, and will then ship them down south again
mimisbrunnr: Logged on 2018-08-08 21:22 ben_vulpes: ah, the lols continue. the redelivery "didn't go through" and the refund was for the wrong amount.
ben_vulpes: refund in full likely by eod, eod tomorrow at the latest
mod6: ok awesome, thanks for the updates. i appreciate that.
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: Will do
BingoBoingo: ty ben_vulpes for your tenacity in chasing these stray drives
ben_vulpes: refund has gained another few hundred dollars, but not yet the balance of a new shipment
adlai: at the risk of sounding like a lightly-chipped (for the broken don't spin too good) record: i'd be glad to rent the new rockchip. i promise this time to think before i type, and not play the shitty music too loud.
adlai: ( this re: http://btcbase.org/log/2018-08-10#1840652 )
mod6: thanks ben_vulpes
mod6: adlai: I appreciate the interest. looks like there is a bit of WoT clean up you need to do tho.
mod6: ben_vulpes: if you're comfortable with where we are at with the July statement, plz publish when you have a moment.
mod6: asciilifeform: while we wait for the shipping snafu to get recitified, any problem with allocating more capital for another batch of drives to be ordered (all 5) directly by BingoBoingo ?
mod6: This way, when all is complete, we should have 10 on site.
mod6: Then we also need to figure out what we're going to do to order another replacement hot-spare (insurance) machine to replace UY3.
mod6: And while we're at it, maybe we should buy 4.
mod6: Obviously a lot to look at there, as shipping is a problem, and we have no way to get them there other than the courier company.
asciilifeform: mod6: can't see problem; we gotta do it.
BingoBoingo: Hardware has always been what we've been short of
mod6: Ok, BingoBoingo, do you wanna do me a favor?
BingoBoingo: What do you need?
mod6: <@ben_vulpes> they are samsung 860 evos, 1TB <@ben_vulpes> mod6: I ordered the MZ-76E1TOB/AM << Let's look up a rough estimate how much 5 of this are going to be from shitazon with shipping.
mod6: Then I'll get you the BTC so you can get some cards and place the order.
mod6: Hopefully we can get these in a reasonable amount of time.
BingoBoingo: mod6: In this moment I am seeing $1,392.73 for 5 of the drives with AmazonGlobal Expedited Shipping or $1,411.08 with supposedly faster AmazonGlobal Priority Shipping
mod6: $20 gamble on possibly faster?
mod6: i guess we can roll the dice on that.
mod6: $1,411.08
mod6: will they let you get 5 at once?
mod6: (previously we've seen that they only let you get like 3 at a time)
BingoBoingo: mod That is for 5 of "Samsung 860 EVO 1TB 2.5 Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-76E1T0B/AM)" Sold by: Amazon.com Services, Inc.
mod6: Ok fantastic. I didn't doubt ya, just double checkin. :]
BingoBoingo: Well, these things need all the checking they can get
mod6: is this lobbesbot` the real one? or is it an imposter?
mod6: !Qcalc 1500/6400
lobbesbot`: mod6: 0.234375
mod6: alright, so I'm going to send you that amount.
BingoBoingo: ack
mod6: ok, sent.
ben_vulpes: mod6: i have some more work to do on it, doublechecking everything. unfortunately, will not go out until the 15th.
mod6: Alright, thanks for the heads up ben_vulpes.
mod6: I also appreciate your work to unsnafu the shipping snafu.
ben_vulpes: tis the least i can do
mod6: BingoBoingo & asciilifeform : Also, forgot to say 'thanks & good work' getting that RK-c going yesterdaay.
mod6: I appreicate that.
BingoBoingo: No problem at all
asciilifeform: mod6: np
mod6: Previously we paid .21483957 for UY3 (according to the April statement)
mod6: any idea how much one of these costs in USD terms?
mod6: These machines probably have 6 bays there.
mod6: (each)
mod6: we could, possibly stuff a 1Tb ssd in each bay during transport and then end up with 24 more ssds. and once these other two orders are done, we'd then have 34 on hand, and 4 UY style machines.
mod6: we do need raid cards too.
mod6: maybe we should order eight of those.
mod6: and 16 cables + 2 additional spares.
mod6: Power Supplies are not a bad idea either.
asciilifeform: mod6: note that (for all practical purpose) the raid cards exist only on ebay
mod6: is that bad?
asciilifeform: ( it is possible to get them elsewhere, but for some reason costs 10x moar )
asciilifeform: nothing wrong with it per se, but oughta note ftr.
mod6: i recall we had to get one last time, did you get that one on ebya?
asciilifeform: i've never bought them anywhere else.
mod6: ok.
asciilifeform: ( for 15 or so yrs )
mod6: *shrug* we do what we gotta do. some day, if it's cheaper elsewhere, then we go elsewhere.
mod6: I also found an error in the http://pizarroisp.net/pizarro-good-neighbor-policy/
mod6: oh, nevermind. just read it wrong three times.
mod6: "involve activity actively" had me
BingoBoingo: <mod6> These machines probably have 6 bays there. << 4 3.5"bays, but the S.MG live machine has 8 2.5"bays
mod6: oh eight even eh?
mod6: nice. that bumps us up to a possible 32 ssd's in one trip.
BingoBoingo: It all depends on the chassis
mod6: ok good to know.
mod6: lol, box cutter
mod6: go ahead and get yourself a kitchen knife BingoBoingo
mod6: haha, this guy lives like fuckin rambo
mod6: that's awesome.
BingoBoingo: mod6: lol
BingoBoingo: After all this dough science I am making a pizza the length and width of my oven
mod6: nice, let us know how it turns out
mod6: http://p.bvulpes.com/pastes/F442A/?raw=true << ben_vulpes asciilifeform BingoBoingo | The Pizarro notes from this week, updated today.
asciilifeform: mod6: i'ma read this tomorrow, about to sleep

lobbesbot: BingoBoingo: Sent 41 minutes ago: <asciilifeform> plz lemme know re the 1 mech disk in the bilge ( whose is it ? and what size ? and can fit in the snake ? )
asciilifeform: mod6: got it
mod6: Thx asciilifeform
mod6: thx BingoBoingo
mod6: bbs
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: The disk is trinque's a 6TB mechanical
adlai: lol, mod6, that's like saying that you have some futurenova-evading to do. sure, you truly do! as do we all. but a) how, pray? and b) will our leftovers even care who cremates them?
adlai: anyway, i'm sure the bitcoins are good for something. maybe i can hire some douchebag to do what he does best...
asciilifeform: adlai: the way to earn respect is to actually fuckin' ~do~ something. i should not have to explain this. ( and yes, breaking things also counts as doing ! ) lift a fucking muscle. srsly
asciilifeform: mod6: i'ma ask yer forgiveness for polluting the log. but srsly, d00d has brain, refuses to use it, maybe can talk sense into'im
mod6: asciilifeform: i have no idea what guy is even talking about. can't help someone if I can't understand 'em.
BingoBoingo: Drives have been ordered!
mod6: hey hey! thanks BingoBoingo
mod6: kindly send back whatever btc you didn't use to my deedbot wallet.
mod6: plzkthx
BingoBoingo: mod6: Will do
mod6: ben_vulpes: how we doing with the July statement?
mod6: and any update on the refund for the drives?
mod6: thanks in advance.
ben_vulpes: hey mod6, refund has processed. i read in #t that you don't want two shipments in flight at the same time, right?
lobbesbot: ben_vulpes: Sent 3 days, 8 hours, and 34 minutes ago: <asciilifeform> plox to give mircea_popescu & asciilifeform a quote for getting 5 10TB mech disks of reasonable quality to BingoBoingostan
ben_vulpes: doing the rest of the statementwork now
ben_vulpes: mod6: i'm holding off on pulling the trigger on another batch of ssds, so i'm sitting on some 1500 USD of amazoncredit for pizarro
mod6: ben_vulpes: thanks for posting the July statement
mod6: <@ben_vulpes> hey mod6, refund has processed. i read in #t that you don't want two shipments in flight at the same time, right? << I basically meant from BingoBoingo.
mod6: I was thinking that once we have confirmation that we can actually receive these items in .uy, we'd go ahead and start ordering them back to back - but not before.
mod6: However, with asciilifeform and S.NSA, I think they want you to get a price quote together for 5 10Tb spinning disks and shipment to .uy.
mod6: So, go ahead and do that when you have a chance, and I think we'll try to do that.
mod6: (But meanwhile, we won't try to buy/ship any more SSDs until BingoBoingo's order is delivered.)
mod6: Let us know how it goes, and feel free to ask as many questions about the model or whatever that you may need while producing the quote.
BingoBoingo: Well, what are the 10TB options? We might as well pick our 4 favorite disks and stick to them (1. SSD 2. HDD 3. Rockchip USB 4. Rockchip SD)
BingoBoingo: All of them seem to be settled except for the mechanical
ben_vulpes: i can make a quote, but i'd prefer asciilifeform spec the hardware
ben_vulpes: can even run down several variants for cost comparison, i just have nfi in re which hardware doesn't suck
asciilifeform: ben_vulpes: i'ma get back to you re subj. ( disks gotta work with raid , and my understanding is that some of the current cheapola, doesn't )
mod6: asciilifeform: when you get around to it, maybe try to get us a cost estimate on a box with same physical configuration as UY3.
mod6: Was thinking we should get some more rentable envs, and some additional hot-spares.
mod6: (we need 'em)
BingoBoingo: Or cold spares that turn to hot spares that turn to active leases
mod6: aha
mod6: http://p.bvulpes.com/pastes/6pJc6/?raw=true << asciilifeform ben_vulpes BingoBoingo : Notes Update
BingoBoingo: ty
asciilifeform: mod6: got it, ty
mod6: one thing I wanted to bring up a bit is the discussion surrounding depreciation of items.
mod6: we could do like jurov was suggesting and just do this once per year.
mod6: however, some of these items have already been deprecated for some fraction of a year already. perhaps, new items that are to be depreciated are done so on a yearly basis, and the ones that already are being depreciated, continue doing so in their current fashion. just to make things easier.
mod6: any thoughts here?
mod6: (take your time - just throwing it out there)
BingoBoingo: Aite, got an email from the DHL guy asking for documents, have forwarded said documents to him.
mod6: Thanks BingoBoingo!
mod6: wb ben_vulpes
mod6: I left a Q for you in #t.
ben_vulpes: BingoBoingo: is entirely capable of pressing an mp-wp
ben_vulpes: BingoBoingo: right?
mod6: does one need to do more than just run the script that adds the user? I would imagine that to be the case...
mod6: If so, are there steps to follow somewhere?
BingoBoingo: I have set up mp-wp before
ben_vulpes: mod6: if you read that script, you will see that it creates a user and wordpress database, and craps all the relevant details back out on the command line
ben_vulpes: s/wordpress/mysql/
ben_vulpes: at that point there are a minor number of hoops to jump through with the wp installation itself where it makes tables and populates them all appropriately. BingoBoingo knows how to drive it home.
mod6: ben_vulpes: yea, did read through this script, but didn't see anything about mysql/wp: http://p.bvulpes.com/pastes/wdoyu/?raw=true
mod6: (maybe this one is stale? ^)
ben_vulpes: yeah
ben_vulpes: mod6: http://p.bvulpes.com/pastes/F6VYL/?raw=true
mod6 looks
mod6: aha!
mod6: ok. so need to run this, then have to probably deploy wpmp to wherever so new $user can use 'eh?
ben_vulpes: correctamundo
mod6: cool. BingoBoingo if you're gonna do this one, it'd be awesome to document the wpmp steps that you take to get the thing deployted and in place for $user, so we can add it somewhere to be referenced at a later date.
mod6: Or I'm open to doing it, if you want to kinda help me through it. Let me know what's easiest.
BingoBoingo: mod6: Can do
mod6: Welcome ave1.
BingoBoingo: Drives have arrived! 5 1TB samsung 860's
asciilifeform: congrats BingoBoingo !!
asciilifeform: announce in #t
BingoBoingo: Announced
mod6: Fantastic News.
mod6: Tonight, I'll work with ya to place two more orders.
mod6: asciilifeform: cool if we load up on some SSDs? I'm thinkin of a target of at least 30 on hand.
mod6: Those five that we just got are basically ear-marked for S.MG should they turn UY3 into production box.
asciilifeform: mod6: for mass buy of ssd, really oughta do it the old-fashioned way, with hand-carry
asciilifeform: otherwise we lose hefty bux to the bridge trolls
mod6: fair enough, but we still need drives.
mod6: and i'm not going down there anytime in the extermely near term
asciilifeform: mod6: the filling of the smg box will leave us with exactly 1 machine that is yet diskless, and that's my s.nsa spare, which wants mech disks
mod6: right
mod6: but I'd like to have at least 10-15 SSD spares on hand.
asciilifeform: mod6: if we have 1-2 spare ssd per machine , we're good for a very long while
mod6: So, figure 10 more?
asciilifeform: ( i use'em here, and they last 2-3 yrs with heavy abuse )
asciilifeform: aha
mod6: Srsly think about if we should get 15-20. Having extra hardware always saves later.
mod6: And will make customers happy if we have spares ready to go.
mod6: Anyway, 10 for now, food for thought for any additional.
mats: there are suggestions that prices fall double digits next year due to a glut
mod6: ah, interesting. thx mats. maybe that'll be a decent idea. 10 ssds now, 10-15 more in 6mos? But maybe by then as well, someone can hand-deliver.

asciilifeform: mod6: probably, but these are 100% absolute-must hand-deliver
asciilifeform: because if not, the customs idjits will tax'em on ~new~ worth, and it'll cost substantial coin for absolutely no reason
asciilifeform: readily 2-3x the cost of flying'em in
mod6: yeah, intended for hand-deliver.
mod6: doesn't have to be order immediately, but maybe in the next 60 days. and if we have 'em on hand, that's fine. we hold 'em until someone can go.
mod6: anyway, food for thought for the moment.

ben_vulpes: mod6: .003 btc/mo is the classic l2 account with no restrictions aside from "don't abuse storage". it's been superseded by the "hosted shell" and "hosted shell plus" plans, and the add-on storage fee
ben_vulpes: any of the shell accounts can set up whatever they want, run whatever processes they want including websites, and should they desire those websites be served to the outside world, they gotta coordinate with pizarro hands to get the UY1 apache to proxy requests to wherever whatever proc they have is running
mod6 re-reads
mod6 scratches head
ben_vulpes: what's confusing, mod6
mod6: the superseded part.
mod6: does that mean that basically the 0.003 version is basically defunct. should be removed?
ben_vulpes: likely, yeah, where is that referenced?
mod6: I was saying, in #t yesterday, that we should snip out the 0.003 item from the "Colocation and Rates" page, over to the "Shared Hosting" page.
mod6: that way it's all together like: FTP - 0.001, Shell 5gb - 0.0015, Shell 10Gb - 0.002, MPWP - 0.003
mod6: but if that top product line is chopped off, then yea, it's just 0.002.
mod6: we should git rid of that product line off the "Colocation and Rates" page all together. Which we can do, np.
mod6: Just worried that I may have over charged someone in the last 60 days for hosting.
mod6: I know trinque paid 0.003
mod6: I'd have to double check, but my guess is that yea, for June and July he paid that rate.
mod6: August same thing, although that one is still outstanding.
ben_vulpes: ah, yeah, colo shouldn't have any shared hosting references on it anyways
ben_vulpes: no, those folks signed up for 0.003/mo, they can remain on those plans
ben_vulpes: we're talking fives of dollars here, it doesn't matter to me. do whatever.
ben_vulpes: and i don't think we need a "MPWP" plan, anyone can install mpwp on a shared shell and get it wired into apache
asciilifeform: ben_vulpes: i think that was originally conceived as a heathen-appeal automagic
mod6: ok, so it sounds like we're saying that the 0.002 price break is what we're going to go with, and that the 0.003 should be removed from our pricing altogether. Correct? asciilifeform BingoBoingo ben_vulpes
mod6: And that's fine with me, just need confirmation that's what we're going with.
mod6: Then I can fix all the things that need it.
BingoBoingo: That looks right given our commercial print on the website.
mod6: *nod*
mod6: asciilifeform?
asciilifeform: hm?
mod6: can you confirm the above, that we're going to charge 0.002 BTC/mo on the shared hosting -- basically the premium.
mod6: 0.003 is not going to be the price any longer. and if you agree, I'm going to have BingoBoingo pull this part off the website:
mod6: Shared Hosting
mod6: A shell on the flagship UY1, as described here. Comes with PHP hosting with Apache, a MySQL database of your very own, and limited support. Requests to domains of your choice proxied to http dirs of your choice.
mod6: 0.003 BTC/mo. Price may change to reflect changes in the underlying exchange rate; wouldn't do at all to bill 250 or 2.5 dollar equivalents for a service priced around 25.
asciilifeform: sounds ok to me
mod6: Alright, I guess that's what we're going with.
mod6: I was thinking that as soon as we get through the month, we could start talking about a simpler overall pricing model.
mod6: Nothing that would be in effect immediately or anything, maybe we decide on something new, or flattened model, and then we roll it out in 6 mos. or something. Just throwing it out there.
BingoBoingo: I propose we flatten the pricing September first, the "Hosted Shell Plus" is out shared plan, and we offer additional space for X fee per 10 GB
mod6: So everyone gets the same thing, no more s/FTP only?
mod6: (im fine with this fwiw, just throwing it out there to be clear)
BingoBoingo: Well, we can offer an ftp/static only option. But it should be one option with additional space for a charge
mod6: Food for thought for sure.
BingoBoingo: Also SSD's are on their way
mod6: Oh yeah, thanks for ordering those BingoBoingo!
mod6: three ssd's this time
mod6: Ok BingoBoingo feel free to remove that one section from that "Colocation and Rates" page.
BingoBoingo: mod6: Done
mod6: *thumbsup*
mod6: Alright, so now that I've updated all the active invoices; shall we offer discounts to anyone who paid full price @ 0.003 BTC/mo ?
mod6: (for previous months) ?
mod6: i.e. if you bought a full year of shell account for 0.036 BTC, should you receive money back in the form of extended service up to the amount they over paid?
mod6: Let's use the example of person X buying 1 full year of Pizarro Shell Hosting in April of this year for 0.036 as:
mod6: !Qcalc (0.003*12)
BingoBoingo: Well, were the transactions settled before the tiered offer went into effect
mod6: Yeah, that's what the word is. I'm thinking that everyone should get something out of this. I don't want people to feel like they got the shaft because they paid up for an extended period and then we changed our pricing.
mod6: Let me count up the customers who would get some hosting time added to their contract, free of charge:
mod6: I count 4 customers.
mod6: Person W would get 0.005 BTC in additional hosting free of charge; equal to 2.5 months at the 0.002 rate.
mod6: Person X would get 0.004 BTC in additional hosting free of charge; equal to 2.0 months at the 0.002 rate.
mod6: Person Y would get 0.005 BTC in additional hosting free of charge; equal to 2.5 months at the 0.002 rate.
BingoBoingo: Well, we do have to take fx risk into account
mod6: Person Z would get 0.002 BTC in additional hosting free of chrage; equal to 1.0 months at the 0.002 rate.
mod6: Yeah, I'm not even going to figure that in - I venture it'd be pretty difficult to calculate that.
mod6: I'm throwing this out there to make it so customers are happy. These are the sort of messes we've really got to avoid in the future. And I know we're working on cleaning up this crud.
mod6: If we agree this is the correct course of action, I'll pgp-gram persons W-Z and let them know how long their hosting has been extended, and record it in the customer notes.
BingoBoingo: Well, the tiered offer doesn't look like it went into effect until nearly the end of may
mod6: If not, then we do nothing and move on.
mod6: for what it's worth, it seems to me that 3 of 4 of these customers were doing shared shell in may.
BingoBoingo: Well, May 29th if your need a publication date
mod6: possibly even 4/4, but I don't have all the info for one customer who is month to month.
mod6: Ok, well we could knock a month off then. Everyone still gets an extended period.
trinque: ty mod6, lemme catch up on logs
mod6: np take your time
trinque: ben_vulpes: http://logs.bvulpes.com/pizarro?d=2018-8-29#419999 << I didn't sign anything agreeing to 0.003 BTC for life
mimisbrunnr: Logged on 2018-08-28 20:36 ben_vulpes: no, those folks signed up for 0.003/mo, they can remain on those plans
trinque: mostly what I'm seeing here is y'all aren't communicating about what the services, prices, etc., are
trinque hasn't any problem with 0.003 for the "respect thy neighbor" plan, provided that if purchasing power goes up significantly, price comes down
trinque: I guess you guys need to tell me what you actually want to sell, and I'll say what I want to buy, and maybe it's the same thing! lol
BingoBoingo: trinque: May 29th http://pizarroisp.net/pizarro-hosting-rate-sheet/ went live with levels of prices for the shared hosting.
trinque: k, so what's the 0.003 get me, or is ben_vulpes just neenering me
BingoBoingo: trinque: mod6 is doing math right now, overpayments can be credited as a prepayment for service
trinque: nbd, was just prodding ben_vulpes for his logic
BingoBoingo: Or if you need more than 10 GB of space on the shared machine that's different math
trinque: naw, need to go outside more for that many pics.
mod6: trinque: BingoBoingo has it. If the board agrees on the re-imbursments for over-payment for the four customers in question, then I'll be calculating the amounts and sending pgp-grams to the customers directly.
mod6: I won't be able to finish all of that up tonight, but rest assured, we'll be communicating the information to you.
mod6: Figure few days, week at most.
trinque: I'd spend the difference to buy y'all a beer, so really isn't a big deal
mod6: Heheh. Thanks Sir. I recognize that it's not a lot of money in question to some, but who am I to determine such a thing. Doing right by the loyal customers is our priority.

mod6: http://p.bvulpes.com/pastes/E4B5O/?raw=true << asciilifeform ben_vulpes BingoBoingo : Alright, I know it's a long one on this notes section. Please look it over, let me know what you think. The ledger and sent-invoices are also up to date.
ben_vulpes: mod6: getting everyone on the same plan is fine, consider crediting their accounts for previous overpayments instead of refunding.
mod6: ben_vulpes: spot on. That's what I'm hoping for, credit account / extend contract expiry dates by some amount. ^
ben_vulpes: most possibly aboveboard and customer-serving thing to do would be to look at the release date of that price sheet (it should be in mp-wp) and then multiply the number of months between now and then by 0.0005, and credit accounts to that tune.
ben_vulpes: sorry, 0.001, as i assume the notion is to move all previous l2 accounts to the shell+ account grade
mod6: right, 0.001
mod6: BingoBoingo looked up the publish date on that page, iirc he said it was May 29th.
ben_vulpes: 3 months then
ben_vulpes: hey that's easy, credit everyone on the classic l2 plan a month and a half of service
mod6: June, July, August. With the exception of anyone who is month-to-month and was repriced already for august.
mod6: So there are three people that, in my estimate would need credit of 0.003 (0.001 for each month) -- thereby extending their current contracts by 1.5 months (@ 0.002 btc/mo).
mod6: We agree then, I think :]
mod6: The exception to the rule I'm stating, is the one that is month-to-month, would receive 0.002 btc for June and July -- already repriced for August.
ben_vulpes: reads correctly to me
mod6: ben_vulpes: The more I think through this... I don't even think that squares it for some clients.
mod6: I was sitting down to write letters to persons W, X, Y and Z, and re-thinking this; There's the following scenario. Let's choose person Q for an example.
mod6: Client Q signed up for Hosted Shell back in April of 2018 for 0.003 BTC/mo for a full year. Bringing their total to 0.03600000 for the year.
mod6: They paid the 0.03600000 in full.
mod6: Now, in the end of may, two months later, we dropped the price down to 0.002 BTC/mo for all clients.
mod6: They would be owed not only the 0.001 per month for months since May, which we agree is three months (June, July, and August); but also for forward months that they have overpaid.
mod6: In the case of Client Q, they should be credited 0.001 for each of the following months: June, July, August, September, October, Novmeber, December, January, February, and March. Bringing the total amount to be credited up to 0.01 BTC.
mod6: Basically, 5 full months of "Hosted Shell Plus" extended onto the end of their current contract expiry.
mod6: Thoughts?
mod6: (5 months because 0.01 / 0.002 per month of "Hosted Shell Plus")
ben_vulpes: on one hand, that's a contract for services at an agreed-upon price for an agreed-upon duration. from the most customer-serving perspective however, we could easily extend the purchased service term to account for the delta.
ben_vulpes: stretching for precedent here, but it's not as though earlier MPEx accounts were charged the delta when the account price went up.
mod6: This is a point. Thanks for your input, I'm just trying to find the most fair thing to do here for the clients.
mod6: In the sense of MPEx, clients were rewarded for signing up early, and prices continued to go up. (The beta program was free!)
mod6: Conversely, in the case of these Pizarro clients, they'd be getting punished for signing up early and paying for a long dated contract up front.
ben_vulpes: world is an uncertain place.
mod6: That it is.
mod6: Am I way out of line with this reasonsing?
mod6: *reasoning
ben_vulpes: it's beer money, i'll not fight you on crediting clients.
ben_vulpes: i can totally see the value in putting it behind us in the cleanest, least arguable way; but also folks sign up for that which they sign up for.
ben_vulpes: the precedent that you're setting is that past contracts are implicitly rewritten when the prices of services change.
ben_vulpes: not a great thing, considering that the plans have huge forex risk.
mod6: Aha, and this is very problematic.
mod6: This is tough.
ben_vulpes: let me put it this way, we placed an ask, market filled it with a bid at a point in time.
ben_vulpes: term contract locks in a price for a term, for better or worse.
ben_vulpes bbl
mod6: asciilifeform: thoughts on the above? how do we resolve this.
mod6: Perhaps the best way to not set a terrible precedent such as rewriting past contracts when pricing changes, and to still compensate clients for the mix up since May, is to do what we talked about upstack: Compensation for 3 months (June, July, August) for those with long term contracts.
mod6: This would amount to 1.5 months for three individuals, and 1 month for one individual.
hanbot: i've got znc running on UY1:50321, ftr.
mod6: Thanks for the update hanbot.
mod6: Good Morning, Pizarro
mod6: Here's what we're going to do about the pricing for pre-existing contracts: Pizarro won't do anything at this time for existing contracts. Upon renewal, you'll pay the posted price.
trinque: for month to month, it goes at the posted price?
mod6: Yes, Sir. Month-to-month on the posted price.
mod6: Invoices sent for month-to-month or longer contracts established in August have already been corrected with the posted price.
mod6: Which includes yours too.
mod6: For all, this was discussed in #trilema, and here's where the thread starts: http://btcbase.org/log/2018-08-31#1846171
