mod6: evenin'
ben_vulpes: heya mod6
mod6: how goes tonight?
mod6: so are we looking to do a possible cuntoo setup, and a discovery of ip problems on foundation box?
mod6: or are we going to just wait until tomorrow?
mod6: (iirc it's 22:15 in .uy correct?)
BingoBoingo: It is 21:13, no daylight shitting time here
mod6: ah, ok, not too bad, so one hour ahead of EST.
mod6: i can remember that.
mod6: well, if you're up to it cool, if not we can always reconvine tomorrow.
mod6: is trinque's box ready to rock then?
ben_vulpes: we've got one of the two up, the other is being recalcitrant with the IP binding.
BingoBoingo: One of the two nodes in his is.
mod6: ah, gotcha.
ben_vulpes: BingoBoingo commented to me in pm that the foundation machine might be sitting on that ip, which, leave it to me to fat-finger the ip assignation
mod6: so we've got a cuntoo to install on UY1, a ip problem on one of trinque's boxes, and the same possible ip problem on the foundation node.
BingoBoingo: More investigation is in order.
mod6: ben_vulpes: ahh, that'd probably do it ya.
ben_vulpes: i kinda doubt it, coulda sworn i disabled password login from net on the two foundation machines while they were in my office.
mod6: thanks for the updates gentlemen.
BingoBoingo: Writing up a letter for the residency appointment tomorrow and we will see what happens after that
BingoBoingo: mod6: It appears we do not quite have an OS yet either http://trinque.org/2017/12/30/wip-cuntoo-installer/comment-page-1/#comment-8
trinque: eh? just change a line in the script.
trinque: character, actually.
BingoBoingo: And how much of a compile is this?
mod6: i read those comments yeah. sounds like from 'r3' to 'r4'. i think it's worth trying.
mod6: will using cuntoo allow BingoBoingo to avoid having to GCC6->GCC5->GCC4, and just drop on GCC4?
trinque: the script - which I encourage folks to read before marrying - does the downgrade to 4.9.4
mod6: ah, very cool. my apologies, i've been so hammered with stuff, i haven't even had a chance to try it myself yet. thanks for clairifing.
BingoBoingo: The reason I ask is because plugging in the crash cart means having the cabinet open. Minimizing the amount of time the cabinet is open is a good thing.
mod6: Sure, I think in the future this ought to be minimized; now, it can't be avoided as we're just trying to get these boxes in action.
mod6: Other things ought to go smoother. We'll get there.
ben_vulpes: BingoBoingo: if you turn on sshd and slam a key down into the livedvd while unpacking cuntoo you should be able to get into the machine remotely and run the script
ben_vulpes: bind to static ip etc
BingoBoingo: ben_vulpes: I will give that a try. If we don't have a cuntoo equivalent of a stage three that's already parked on the right version of GCC soon however, we are going to keep burning a lot of time to do the same compilations over and over.
trinque: the author thought of that too...
trinque: pop the distfiles from your first build into the distfiles dir, and they will be used the next time.
trinque: this is a finer instrument than a stage 3 because it is per-package.
diana_coman: trinque, I ran yesterday evening the script with the change 'r3' -> r4 ; now it failed at dev-vcs/git-2.13.6: ERROR: sys-apps/net-tools-1.60_p20161110235919::musl failed (compile phase): emake failed
diana_coman: rather: http://p.bvulpes.com/pastes/YSEX6/?raw=true
mod6 looks
mod6: hrm.
mod6: alright, well it's good that we're going through this
mod6: my instinct is to want to freeze the source bundles and drop them directly into distfiles or whatever. also might need to freeze whatever emerge files so that i'll pick up the versions we want. i dunno.
mod6: where 'emerge files' =~ 'portage files'
mod6: not sure if this will work tho. but I'd think that we could have a totally frozen base system if we wanted.
mod6: cuntoo-carbonite
trinque: thanks for trying it diana_coman; I'll run it later today and see wtf.
trinque: mod6: yep, that's the idea. only part that I didn't already freeze is the "musl overlay"
trinque has time now, is running it.
mod6: thx
mod6: What's our plan for today?
ben_vulpes: nail down the routing issue.
mod6: Sounds good. I think BB was saying that he had some sort of meat-space meeting...
ben_vulpes: mhm
mod6: *thumbsup*
asciilifeform: ben_vulpes: tangentially, those shock-mount plastic rackmount suitcases you mentioned, turns out can be had for 100bux (surplus) ea.
asciilifeform: in ~unlimited qty
asciilifeform: the 1 problem is, a 4u case ~empty~ weighs 35pound
asciilifeform: ( example : https://www.ebay.com/itm/ECS-4U-Rackmount-Shockmount-Rack-Military-Case-Black-Hardigg-Style/253090254660 )
ben_vulpes: good find; take two?
ben_vulpes: BingoBoingo: when you get back let's work on getting that second node of trinque's hooked onto the network. i'd suggest logging into the foundation machine, to see what IP it thinks that it wants, turning it off completely, and then getting into trinque's second node to see what IP it is trying to use. once confirmed that (or fixed such that) they're trying to use the correct IPs and shits still b0rked, we
ben_vulpes: can move on from there.
mod6: does he need to be infront of the rack to do this (i'd presume that to be the best/easist way)
mod6: ?
asciilifeform: ben_vulpes: before i buy even suitcase, much less plane ticket, i will read ben_vulpes's blogpost re: what happened with his airline
mod6: Welcome mats
mats: thanks
mod6: Looking for service? Or just here to see how it's going?
mod6: (feel free if you want to idle)
ben_vulpes: asciilifeform: that is on the conveyor for today
asciilifeform: neato
BingoBoingo: <mod6> Sounds good. I think BB was saying that he had some sort of meat-space meeting... << Just returned from the other side of the city. Have my official Certificado de Llegada stamped "RESIDENTE EN TRAMITE"
mod6: What does 'RESIDENT IN PROCESS' mean?
mod6: You just gotta keep checkin back like once per month, or how's that go?
BingoBoingo: mod6: I have to get some papers to finalize it, but it means that I can stay here and won't have to make any visa runs
trinque: pretty cool. do they have a limit on that?
BingoBoingo: I check back when I get the papers. Later this afternoon I have a debriefing
BingoBoingo: trinque: Will go over that with the Dentist during Spanish lessons. Preparing to go to the rack at the moment
trinque: neat, just curious.
BingoBoingo: I managed the appointment without a translator.
BingoBoingo: Just make eyes at the chubby girl behind the desk and she'll do the work to keep you here
trinque: lol
BingoBoingo: Blog post coming after higher priority shit is done
mod6: lmao
ben_vulpes: bingo_: lmk when you're stable lol
bingo_: Anyone know an ip for chat.freenode.net
trinque: 139.162.227.51
trinque: first one I got when pung
trinque: I've created mavn.is/pappasbbq/lab , configured, added hours
trinque: I told them we'd create one "lab" per brand
trinque: gonna place a test order then let Ken know it's up
ben_vulpes: wrong channel trinque
trinque: gorramit
mod6: Ken's bbq sauce.
mod6: I'm more of a Stub's guy myself.
trinque: proper austin bbq eh?
trinque: ah, I guess there's more than one named that
mod6: "Stubb's", yeah
mod6: site says west tx. *shrug*
mod6: I bought a new smoker... so I'm ready to do some pork ribs and brisket this summer.
trinque: nice. suns out here, high of 71. I oughta get out to the grill this weekend.
mod6: man, that sounds nice. we're still getting snow.
ben_vulpes: trinque: http://p.bvulpes.com/pastes/wiMHc/?raw=true
trinque: sho nuff!
ben_vulpes: gonna bill you prorated from next utc 00:00:00
mod6: congrats on being 1st customer trinque
trinque: thanks guys. I'm very excited to move in.
trinque: got a final rate for me?
trinque: (with extra IP)
ben_vulpes: i'll comp you the IP; once we eat enough of our block we'll get the ball rolling with LACNIC for a further allocation
mod6: /8 here we come
trinque: much appreciated.
ben_vulpes: mod6: http://p.bvulpes.com/pastes/LXIxu/?raw=true
ben_vulpes: will start billing for this at 00:00:00 utc as well
mod6: Thanks!
mod6: This is great news.
mod6: Now we gotta get UY1 going and we're in great shape.
mod6: Great work ben_vulpes & BingoBoingo.
asciilifeform: ben_vulpes: the unfortunate part ( re earlier thread ) is that 2 supermicros + the linked suitcase is already > 100pounds
asciilifeform: ( not even speaking of if you were to fill all 4u )
ben_vulpes: misery, i thought the supermicros were only 17 kg
ben_vulpes: oh that'd do it anyways.
asciilifeform: mine are 28 pounds ( sans disks ) ea.
asciilifeform: ~12.5kg
asciilifeform: sooo theoretically a ~hair~ under 100pound, if you have 2 per case.
ben_vulpes: 100 - 56 = 44
asciilifeform: the case itself, is near 40.
ben_vulpes: four pounds under, but then you have a disksnpowersupplies problem
asciilifeform: i am counting the ps
ben_vulpes: ah well
ben_vulpes: they were willing to eat up to 103 at the gate fwiw
ben_vulpes: actually going to get that coffee now
BingoBoingo: <ben_vulpes> they were willing to eat up to 103 at the gate fwiw << I suspect the hundred pound limit is a baggage handler's union workrule
ben_vulpes: probably not replicable, anyways\
asciilifeform: i looked at various airlines, all seem to have the 100 hardlimit
asciilifeform: and that's with the max surcharge (typically 200$)
asciilifeform: per item.
asciilifeform: it also happens to be the case that asciilifeform has no ben_vulpes-style 'send it home from the airport if they won't fly it' capability
asciilifeform: i.e. if they won't fly even 1 item, i either must jettison it, or abort mission , in the latter case losing entire cost of ticket
asciilifeform ponders the latter , and thinks of a possible pill, involving conscripted gurl and taxicabs. but if they won't take 100 pound case, mission still fails, even smallest case will be 100 pound.
asciilifeform bbl
BingoBoingo: Prolly ought to examine case for anything trimable
ben_vulpes: they'll take 100, but not over.
BingoBoingo: 98 to 99 gives the scales room to disagree
