mod6: re this thread : http://logs.bvulpes.com/trilema?d=2018-5-1#346513 << Any thoughts ben_vulpes ? I guess my first question: Since we only allow for rental of the rockchip, should we allow for the rental of the FG if one wishes to attach one to it? And if so, at what rate?
mimisbrunnr: Logged on 2018-05-01 21:33 mircea_popescu: incidentally, do these come with fg or as an optional ?
mod6: And if not, perhaps, they must buy the FG. If they do buy the FG, and they discontinue their rental of the rockchip, how do we keep track of the FG for them, or send it to them, or ... wire it into full 1U/2U?
ben_vulpes: mod6 asciilifeform fg rents for .0125 btc per annum
mod6: Just throwin it out there. I guess I would oppose rental of FG because: 1) How much time has the FG been used by prior parties? What is the upper-limit on lifetime-hours of an FG? 2) Would need to be re-flashed between renters. Not that we can't do that, but is another consideration.
mimisbrunnr: Logged on 2018-05-03 05:47 ben_vulpes: BingoBoingo: what is this 'llave' charge?
BingoBoingo: http://logs.bvulpes.com/pizarro?d=2018-5-3#347400 << The tramite cedula is the hearing to get a local ID number. The translation charge is related to this. While the english language birth certificate was sufficient for Migracciones, the Department of identity wanted it translated. The process transformed the birth certificate from a single page into an envelope full of pages describing its physical condition
mimisbrunnr: Logged on 2018-05-03 05:48 ben_vulpes: tramite cedula idem
lobbes: btw ben_vulpes, in light of my spiffy new pizarro rockchip box, I don't think I'll need my shell going forward (and I got to pinch every bitcent). Feel free to reclaim my space once my period runs out (I think I was monthly); I dun have anything on there I need to save
mimisbrunnr: Logged on 2018-05-03 18:02 mircea_popescu: and i hope for your sake that your board is requiring you to provide the heathen-customer-acquisition plan by some sort of deadline before you all sink, yes.
shinohai: Heya mod6 re: my comments in trilema earlier - tbh asciilifeform is correct. one should be building trb under gentoo - can even d/l stage3 of choice and do it in chroot simpler than trying to rectify all the deb/ubuntu retardation.
shinohai: In my experience, takes far less time (applies to eulora builds also)
mod6: yeah. i agree. perhaps going forward (i iknow sometime in the not too distant future, there will be a bundle of patches ground-together, not sure if it'll be called a 'release', but ya know...) we might not support deb/ubuntu at all.
mod6: i mean, I want to support other OSs... i just don't want to encourage them any more either. that whole /etc/alternatives shit, and whateverthefuck is too much time in support.
shinohai: I think I had mentioned somewhere before my defrocking that I wasn't going to support noob instruction using deb, etc anymore. If they wanted to learn the chroot thing (failing a complete gentoo install) id help, but thats it.
shinohai: Literally takes ~15 minutes to do, and much less complicated than update-alternatives, etc.
mod6: sure, I agree actually. once you figure out the install part, the rest is easier.
mod6: downgrading gcc/g++ on those piles of dung are way more pains in the ass.
trinque: BingoBoingo: the shared hosting box is pretty damned cheap, not cheap enough though?
BingoBoingo: trinque: I'm saying any concept of paying for useful shit is lost on the orcs.
trinque: yeah, and piling effort towards the cheap end is wasted effort. I get it
trinque thinks more directed effort at the l0de people might pay off
BingoBoingo: Fellow was a Red hat developer seeking to host Wordpress blogs and a personal pile of PHP weird that was likely burning too much CPU for civilized life on a shared box. And yet He felt entitled to not pay for CPU/DiskIO, etc
BingoBoingo: The Orc capacity to entitlement is unbounded
mimisbrunnr: Logged on 2018-05-05 14:29 shinohai: Heya mod6 re: my comments in trilema earlier - tbh asciilifeform is correct. one should be building trb under gentoo - can even d/l stage3 of choice and do it in chroot simpler than trying to rectify all the deb/ubuntu retardation.
shinohai: ben_vulpes: I started doing it when learning to gentoo as way of trying out different setups, etc. - was nice for testing trb when one wanted to do everything from "clean" start, i.e. without a bunch of other packages in the mix.
trinque: BingoBoingo: next dive, would you reboot my SSD node? the "ufw" init script apparently does not "set -e" and thus, when missing a kernel module it wants, it happily proceeds and drops your current iptables rules, then goes and fucks itself
trinque: ah, as I recall you're sick. there's no real rush on this, just whenever you're on your feet.
Mocky: my ~/www/index.html on UY1 is owned by root and I can't replace
Mocky: when I load mocky.org/index.html i'm getting a response that doesn't match what's in my ~/www/index.html. I'm not sure if I set up the dns wrong or if it's an apache config issue. Anyway this isn't urgent, I'm going to bed now.
ben_vulpes: all righty, i'll get that this evening
Mocky: ben_vulpes: oh man, my permissions, I totally spaced on that one. Thank you. Also I struggle to stomach both php and wp. I'm going to have a go at comments using python via cgi, without js. I'll make mp-wp my plan b.
BingoBoingo: trinque: We can coordinate on it later today.
danielpbarron: not even sure if that's the way to go; i don't know much about system logging
mod6: so looks like by placing '>=sys-devel/gcc-5.0' in /etc/portage/package.mask/crapolade then doing the 'emerge -sync' and then a 'emerge -avuDN --with-bdeps=y @world' still installs a 6.4.0 version of gcc.
mod6: was hoping that it would simply install 4.9.4 so I don't have to finish the install, then downgrade the whole box
ben_vulpes: nope, it won't do that, and that won't work
ben_vulpes: you actually have to compile 5 with the 6 in stage 3, recompile everything on the machine with 5 for consistent application binary interfaces, and then do the same with 4
mod6: doesn't look like this old stage3 is going to work either:
mod6: `emerge -avuDN --with-bdeps=y @world` says: !!! Your current profile is deprecated and not supported anymore. Use eselect profile to update your profile. Please upgrade to the following profile if possible: default/linux/amd64/17.0/no-multilib
mod6: And after calculating deps it says, "!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy ">=app-portatge/elt-patches-20170422" have been masked"
mod6: i tried to simply `emerge app-editors/vim` after this too, and it complained similarly as: "All ebuilds that could satisfy "app-editors/vim" have been masked."
mod6: If I update my profile to 17.0 (from 13.0) will this pull in all that nasty gcc6 shit?
mimisbrunnr: Logged on 2018-05-13 15:37 asciilifeform: http://logs.bvulpes.com/pizarro?d=2018-5-13#354915 << i find that meaningful knob-twiddling on the kernel is ~impossible without menuconfig ( there's a mess of elaborately interlinked options , if you hand-tweak .config , you will end up text-prompted to fix or more often silent breakage
mimisbrunnr: Logged on 2018-05-13 08:52 jurov: mod6: just a minor comment - if you aren't using genkernel's initrd then genkernel is superfluous and adds a bunch of unnecessary dependencies,
jurov: in other words, make menuconfig is stadard kernel facility, not dependent on gentoo's genkernel
BingoBoingo: Have we looked hosting control panels that might cut down on the time needed to admin an influx of heathens yet? The options I found during BBisp era searching that aren't tied to debian/RedHat are virtualmin https://www.virtualmin.com/os-support and ISPConfig
ben_vulpes: i got pulled into the expediencies of setting apache up before putting too much time into those
BingoBoingo: It's something to be played with if anyone has hands and a gentoo box
BingoBoingo: And while it's quiet in chan, the local tax day this month is the 22nd
BingoBoingo: It's 7 days out. It's the same as last time. BPS gets 4200 pesos and change which now with the cedula will deliver mutualista healthcare, DGI gets 850 pesos as "minimo IVA" (the small business alternative to the full 22% IVA)
BingoBoingo: Usually tax day's the 20th, but with the May 1st commie labor day holiday there's more time.
asciilifeform: in other noose, i found that there is a commercial box that ships with 12 opteron mini-mobos , independently on backplanes, in 3u : Supermicro SYS-5038ML-H12TRF . ( about 5k usd , not incl disks , so not immediately 'sexy' from our pov, imho. unless someone finds in junkyard. )
asciilifeform: ( seems to come in intel variant also, apparently moar common )
BingoBoingo: The same 1800 is fine for this month. Then when the personal recapitalization gets here I'll use the WU receipts to audition accountants for future business by getting the "Not going to starve in Uruguay" letter done for finishing the residency process
BingoBoingo: <mod6> The good news is, I think we'll have not only the new 'personal recapitalization' in place by next month, but a different way to converert so asciilifeform doesn't have to bear the burden alone. << Right, there are a lot of moving parts here that can be made more robust as Pizarro transitions from operating by putting out fires.
mod6: I feel like ben_vulpes was trying to sort out maybe one last detail? Not sure. Otherwise, I think we're fine.
BingoBoingo: mod6: Well, there was the monthly per diem bump as an ongoing, which is better sorted out sooner than later, and then there's the end of the year or other long term incentive which can wait quite a bit longer.
mod6: <+mod6> And I don't think it's whatever USD. Per the conversation it's $5000 USD worth of BTC right?
ben_vulpes: BingoBoingo: go ahead and invoice now is fine
asciilifeform: douchebag: USE flags are ~the~ central concept of gentoo, i recommend becoming familiar with the idea
asciilifeform: ( in short, rather than having to ./configure --no-pig-fucking --no-sheep-fucking && make && make install , as you would elsewhere, or in heathen binariolade linuxen where you e.g. apt-get blah and it came prebuild with pig- and sheep- fucking and you have no choice, instead all you gotta do is to remove FUCKPIGS and FUCKSHEEP from your USE flags, supposing you had put it in for whatever reason, and re-emerge the affected packages. )
