adlai: re: yesterday's << asciilifeform: "'magnetic ram' also claimed to have serious radiation resistance ( unlike conventional sram ) , but i have not verified . physically sound claim tho." >>
adlai: my understanding is that "radiation resistance" is meaningless without specification of exactly what kind of radiation. if you're only worried about gamma rays, then wtf is "magnetic ram" if not toroi around selected lattice intersections; and if 'radiation' includes anything able to express an odd-mod-4-polar EM field, then that kind of ram is also fucked.
adlai has not yet considered the various ways in which a manufacturer of core memory could wrap the whole thing in a faraday cage, although these are made of actual materials, not magic "core ferrite positronium"
adlai: e.g.: nobody inquired in public about the location of heat dissipation holes in the FG shields, because anyone who actually cares, investigates for themselves.
asciilifeform: adlai: industry term 'radhard'. and refers always to ionizing particle rather than em
asciilifeform: adlai: mram's thing uses 'tunnel junction' rather than toroids, read their spec if yer curious.
asciilifeform: adlai: fg analogue board runs on 1mA, no measurable heat to speak of. feel free to copper tape over the holes if you like, you need maybe 10cents' worth of it.
asciilifeform: adlai: http://btcbase.org/log/2017-06-02#1664464 << pictured example of how to fully cage FG.
asciilifeform: ^ ~10bux, bonus waterproof/outdoor .
adlai: ty for the pointers. as you can tell, my EE knowledge hasn't progressed much in the past year, although at least my studies put me in front of both the circuit diagrams ~and~ the finished product quite often these days!
adlai: in other survivability engineering, I was amused to read that "D. radiodurans" (bacterium allegedly immune to lethal rays) is apparently an oligocyte, and relies on nigh-indistinguishable biochemistry (from the pov of external mutator)
adlai: its genome encodes redundancy maintenance, rather than exploring a qualitatively different information structure
adlai: regrettably this is still 'wikipedia knowledge' afaic
