TomServo: asciilifeform: I tried getting one of the screens you mentioned here: http://btcbase.org/log/2018-09-20#1852509
TomServo: It didn't go so well: http://p.bvulpes.com/pastes/IFWoh/?raw=true
asciilifeform: TomServo: lol, i got same !!
asciilifeform: i suspect that they vanished and will never be found.
asciilifeform: TomServo: see also http://btcbase.org/log/2018-10-01#1856784 ...
ben_vulpes: asciilifeform: i just realized that the bot is waiting to be voiced, due to its origins.
ben_vulpes: if you +v it permanently, it will perform its normal duties.

asciilifeform: ben_vulpes: i'm a n00b to fleanode toggles -- did i not +v it correctly..?
ben_vulpes: was it +v before?
asciilifeform: nope
asciilifeform: toggled it this morning tho
asciilifeform: or hm
asciilifeform: i dun think +v does anyffing here
ben_vulpes: simply giving directions of bot performing jobs
asciilifeform: this chan isn't moderated
ben_vulpes: no, it does not, but the bot looks for that before it will speak
asciilifeform: aaa
asciilifeform: should speak nao tho.
ben_vulpes: and did, see above
asciilifeform: aaaa
asciilifeform: aite, missed, lol
asciilifeform: ok
ben_vulpes: ah i see, probably thought i was pinging you to effect the change again
nodecounter: fwiw (not much i know) luke junior has a node counter like those other racals. his has always shown a few more trb nodes. last week it was up to 26. now 14. https://luke.dashjr.org/programs/bitcoin/files/charts/software.html https://luke.dashjr.org/programs/bitcoin/files/charts/security.html.orig 'vulnerable' 'means' to matt corallo's bug the other day
nodecounter: rascals
nodecounter: always wondered who the odd extra few nodes were
nodecounter: peace out
asciilifeform: not particularly interested in anything lukejr ( http://wot.deedbot.org/E463A93F5F3117EEDE6C7316BD02942421F4889F.html ) has to say .
mats: asciilifeform: out of curiosity, requested some quotes for esp8266ex. here are the results: https://pastebin.com/xgCq2iXt
asciilifeform: mats: notbad
mats: its still in prod too, esp32 isn't so popular that its supplanted the other
asciilifeform: mats: didja ever get around to experiment with the thing ? ( mine was a bit disappointing )
asciilifeform: it eats quite a bit of current when transmitting, esp. for the very modest range it gets
mats: i have one on my desk, i've been struggling to get esp-open-rtos flashed
mats: it is very power hungry, and my suspicion is the limited power available from a peltier-charged batt practically guarantees it will only be up for a few hours a day
asciilifeform: 'hours' thus far seems overly optimistic.
mats: could tag city buses that are on the road much more than typical sedan, which idles 95% of the time
mats: but those get regular inspections, so...
asciilifeform: and i'm not sure that a box with 500 metre range (and that's in open field, vs city, where 9000 wifi boxen clogging spectrum) is good for much
mats: i see why you didn't spend a lot of time on it
asciilifeform: imho the fatal flaw is that it sticks to the (computationally, and bandwidth-) very costly 802.11 stack.
mats: i went digging for power saving strategies with 80211a,b, doesn't seem to be much there
mats: AP is responsible for setting DTIM, no way for wifi client to do it
mats: no equiv. of nagle's algo for wifi packets
mats: well, frames
asciilifeform: it's simply obese, is all there is to it imho
asciilifeform: the only way to save power is to not transmit. which kinda defeats the whole point.
asciilifeform: covert tx, in serious adult form, won't use carrier radio at all.
asciilifeform: ( see also 'uwb' thread in #t )
asciilifeform: equally sane for small and large tx.
amberglint: Hi asciilifeform
amberglint: I have some findings about Symbolics, should I talk about them here or on #trilema?
asciilifeform: #trilema prolly best
asciilifeform: walk in, i'ma voice you
amberglint: I actually have a key registered there, just need to dust it off
asciilifeform: even better
asciilifeform: amberglint: http://deedbot.org/help.html ( pm it !!up , then return the decoded string in pm with !!v ... )
